The DroidPlanner team, led by Arthur Benemann, is pleased to announce the next version of its Android-based UI. DroidPlanner 2.0 offers a completely redesigned interface for controlling 3DR multirotors over Mavlink. The UI/UX has been rethought with an emphasis on simplified workflows, glanceable information, and reliability for the most common user actions.
DroidPlanner 2.0 centers around two screens: Telemetry and Planning. The telemetry screen allows users to quickly assess the state of the aircraft and perform quick actions, like loiter and land. The planning screen allows users to create missions on the fly, as well as edit them easily in the field. Other features, particularly those different from the original DroidPlanner, are listed below. The DroidPlanner 2.0 UI was specifically targeted at multirotors, but full plane support and all the features of the original DroidPlanner are coming soon!
Features:
- Completely redesigned graphical user interface
- Specifically designed for 3DR multirotors and Iris
- New telemetry screen showing quick glanceable info: HUD, battery, RSSI, distance
- Easy to use Home, Land, and Loiter buttons
- New guided mode with changeable altitude
- Quick mode switching
- New planning screen for quick mission generation
- Easy and powerful mission editing tools
- Basic radio TX setup
- Preflight checklist
Coming soon:
- Survey tools in the mission planning screen
- FollowMe 2.0 with advanced control options
- New flight tuning screens
- Improved radio configuration
The app is still in a beta release, bugs can be reported on Github.

Hi Arthur,
Again congratulations for this excellent work.
I've been testing this version new 2 for a while in beta mode, v3.1 X8 copter APM2.5 3DR Telem via RF+Bluetooth connection (by the way this bluetooth connection is orgasmic).
I would find it useful to be able to customize what is viewed on the screen like this:
-Customize the left side bar of the main screen to choose what to display or not to display (for example replace "air speed" by "consumed amps").
-Display the current flight mode on this first screen as one of the left bar rectangle items, that would change color when entering a failsafe mode for example (and maybe blink too with sound & vibrations :))
-Agree with Guy that HDOP is more useful than number of satellites (although the two should be displayed). Again a choice to customize the top bar.
Anyway VERY happy with this wonder piece of Android software.
Thank you Arthur & devs.
Thanks for everyone that is joining the beta, and also a thanks to 3DR for getting involved and supporting the development of the app.
We have an active group of collaborators now, so I want thanks them as well ( to mention a few: Azrin, Fredia, Rob G, Paku ...). If you want to join us on the development just think of something to do, download the code/IDE, and do it.
@Marius van Rijnsoever:
We are working on making the app compatible for phones, for the moment we will limit the distribution only to tablets to avoid problems for the users. Thanks for posting the issue on Github, and for the donation (I don't drink beer, but I'll buy some hardware).
@Guy McCaldin
We can add those as pop-up menus when clicked on the items like GPS and Battery. This is exactly the kind of thing that we want on GitHub.
Darn good looking! My X8 is showing up any day, can't wait to try it out!
I might have to join up in this Beta! I always enjoy a good Beta.
Thanks for the instructions. Very easy to sign up as a tester. Layout does not fit on my S2 running kitkat (will post a screenshot on github), but otherwise love the new design.
Also made a donation to buy Arthur a six-pack of beers :)
I think it may take a few minutes after you apply to the beta group for that link to go live. In my case, it took about 30 mins. I've updated the post to make that clear.
Sweet interface, can't wait to test out a mission!
Is metric/meters the only option? Didn't see a setting to change.
Chris, it seems there is a problem in the link. I get an error. May be the app is not published?
"We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server."
Update: Okay now it works. I think I might have checked it while it was configured..
Have been flying the beta beta for a little while its very slick well done all involved.
