This is my blog to the newscasts I'm going to be releasing every couple days.  If you have anything you would like me to cover in a newscast please let me know through message or comment. As DroneCafe and The Daily Cup evolve over the next month so will this blog.  To show my support for diydrones.com I am going to wear a diydrones.com t-shirt in every newscast.  I love honest criticism so if you have any suggestions please don't be shy! (The newscasts over time will become more professional looking)

I'm really focusing a lot on the non military aspect of drones in my newscasts.  I am going to focus even harder on trying to be a daily face reminding diydrones.com members to feel obligated to inform the uniformed that drones aren't limited to destruction. Please help support me in my efforts.

Great idea on the video podcasts. My suggestions are as followings

    1. Quality vs Quantity. If you posted every week, I'm sure your audience would still be engaged with weekly updates. (Gives you time for point 2)
    2. Plan, script (write out the points you want to make) for each episode. Rehearse to get the timing right. Stick to 10mins. After some practice you'll get to know the timing and require less rehearsing time. You can even edit the episode when it goes awry.
    3. Stay focused on a particular topic, I.e. civilian drone applications, transmitter selection pros and cons, tuning, safety etc... Pick one stick to it
    4. Don't talk about what you think you would like to do in the future episode, focus on the now, the topic at hand (nobody likes to hear you are going to do something and you cannot and or don't deliver for whatever reason)
    5. Create a consistent view for the viewer to see, i.e us DIYDroners, with a web camera not built into your computer. A back drop of your bench or something, you can use your computer of screen so you can see the shot is framed ok, but look directly at the camera when you can.
    6. When presenting an opinion, make sure to express the counter opinion to reference your own.

    Good Luck.
  • Thank's Dean! I'm dropping Episode 4 tomorrow afternoon! Be on the lookout! :D

  • Great stuff Josh, keep em coming :-)

  • @All Members: Please let me know what you think of how I made episode 3 compared to episode 1 & 2

  • @R. D. Starwalt. I agree with you 100% on everything.  Next episode I'm going to focus on making it under 10min and I'm going to put a lot more time and effort into editing and preparing information on just one subject.  Thank you so much for all the good honest criticism, because of you episode 3 will be awesome!

  • Good effort Joshua.

Have you considered cutting your episode time to no more than 10 minutes (or less) and focus entirely on one subject? Essentially you are trying to provide an Informative Speech on a particular drone topic.

This would make editing easier (editing is a good thing) and allow you to hold your audience's attention to the end.

Check out this speech on Wiffle Ball (the dude is a bit nervous - shifting his weight and swaying).

You've got 3 episodes (counting the announcement) in the can now. Good luck!

  • @Bernard: That's exactly what I'm trying to do  "add some dynamic to the site"! Thank's tons for your support I truly do mean it when I say it means a lot to me.  Keep in touch and please don't be shy if you want any topics, issues, etc covered in any episodes.
