FIND MY DRONE iPhone App Published in App Store

Pleased to announce today that my new App FIND MY DRONE is now available in the App Store. FIND MY DRONE is a FREE App that connects your iPhone to your personal UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) using the popular MAVLink protocol.

Watch this space, FIND MY DRONE will soon be followed by MAVPilot, a ground control station for your pocket.

Hi Bill

next thought, If you can get live position from the drone (I have no idea how ) then it will also help to spot the still flying UAV as it returns from a mission and has maybe gone beyound VLOS . to use just line the iphone up with the arrow and point at the sky and your UAV "should" be somewhere in the area you are looking, especailly if you can get the elevation as well.

That's a great app. I just need to understand , except via manual input, how the phone gets data from mavlink ? Will that require a 3G or 4G network ? Or is GPRS enough?

Hi Bill

Think about this a little .

So I use this app to find my lost drone by either manually importing the Lat and long or getting it from MP etc. . then walking off into the distance.!! Great, very useful tool that I hope I never need ....I like it.

Now I have a problem..I find my drone and now need to go back to the flying field, car park etc wherever I left all my ground station etc. can you add a HOME location in the same way, or click on the map so I can find my way back to where I started from??

@Magnus: I'm working on instructions on how you can create a WiFi (Roving Networks RN-XV WiFly) to 3DR 915/433MHz radio bridge. I also have a Bluetooth Low Energy solution that will also be coming soon.

I believe there are cellular bridges for arduino's which could be used for mavlink via 3G/LTE, given APM is arduino based (IIRC).

@Dwgsparky: I'm pushing a fix to distance update problem in manual mode tonight. The Lat & Lon displays your current pos not the drones, that will also be fixed as well. Thx for the report.

Does not seem to work correctly,

I set my HOME location in the settings and when I open the app the gps value changes on the find my drone page to a slightly diffent number.

the distanceto drone never changes either.
