GoPro Hero 3+ Announced

GoPro just announced its new camera, the Hero3+. I am really interested to see how much smaller it really is than the hero3. Longer battery, sharper lens, smaller, 720p at 120fps sounds really good to me. The buttons on the enclosure seem bigger, I hope so, the old ones were a pain to press. Anyone getting one?

Edit:

Here is the video, now gopro has made me want to play with lions.

I found this picture for size comparison:

  • Yeah, pretty awesome video.  But I'm pretty sure there are many scenes that are not shot with the GoPro.  ie: the "landscape" shots, or the ones sort of "setting the scene". The stable, smooth ones that are not obviously GoPro, probably aren't.

And the ones that are GoPro are probably heavily post processed.

I wonder, can companies pay Youtube to not compress the video as much or something?  I can't get anything to look that clear on Youtube, no matter the source.

  • Holy awesome video Batman.

  • @John B.

Have you tried NEX v.s. RX100 for video? And if yes, which one produces better video?

  • Resolution numbers aren't everything.  Lens quality plays a big role.  But so does noise, light sensitivity, bitrate and compression...

  • Developer

R, video resolution (2.7K@30, 720p@120) and compression (ProTune 48mbit) wise it's a NEX killer, but the built in fish-eye lens makes it a "toy" in professional regards. A toy that you see used in lots of professional TV productions for "live action" footage mind you..

  • Interesting.

Somebody supposedly doing professional AP told me that the new Hero would make my Nex5 obsolete.  Seems to not be the case. LOL

  • The new Silver Edition now can do 1080p@60, that is a great improvement, great for slomo footage. The Black Edition is not that much better for RC and FPV flying IMHO.

  • The camera itself is the same size so will fit all current gimbals. Its mainly the case that has been reduced and fits the camera a lot better.
  • We've all been there Ian...;-)

  • I hope they innovate an on/off switch that actually turns the camera off - instead of running the battery down for no good reason. I'm just slightly bitter at the brain dead design decision which has robbed me of being able to film so many times.
