GPS-GLONASS

mod_gnss_mag_hmc300.jpg?width=300I would like to introduce GPS-GLONASS module with optional magnetometer. Major benefits of using those mixed GNSS modules is fast and accurate position fix, because it use both constellation of satellites to predict position.

It supports 3 types of I2C magnetometers from different manufacturers: most popular HMC5883, MAG3110 and MMC3140. Magnetometer on module allow to mount it in magnetic clean place, far away from fields from power wires.

Module has supercapacitor to keep for few minutes backup voltage for GNSS chipset. It allow fast fix after battery change in plane or copter. Connector has raster 0,1" is easy to mount. Crimping tool can be the same as servos.

Boards are available in our shop. Worldwide shipment is only 2,6 Euro.

Module is also compatible with our FPV OSD and RTH Autopilot.

Documentation, technical data and sample code with magnetometers support, can be found on GPS-GLONASS module with magnetometer website.

  • > Can you store with this module raw L1 phase data?

I can't, or at least don't know how to do.

    > these modules have only NMEA  output with four decimal digits [...]

Yes, you are right. This is also MTK chipset, maybe it also have other possible firmware? How to check the firmware version?

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but these modules have only NMEA  output with four decimal digits which is way less resolution than Ublox or mtk 1.9 firmware.

  • Can you store with this module raw L1 phase data?

  • I am not sure about compatibility. Don't have APM nor PixHawk (but have also GPS module with magnetometer). The GLONASS receiver except standard NMEA messages has additional messages like this:

    $GNGSA,A,3,07,09,02,26,05,08,,,,,,,2.10,1.86,0.97*1B
    $GNGSA,A,3,79,,,,,,,,,,,,2.10,1.86,0.97*10
    $GNRMC,220927.000,A,5214.1922,N,02056.1020,E,0.15,48.97,141013,,,A*44

The message should be decoded. This is simple task, but don't know if it is present in the code.

Rest of messages and way of configuration is identical like for other receivers with MTK chipsets.

  • I had several flights. The last one was yesterday while testing new mainboard. The log shows visible sats (yellow line) and dilution of precision: HDOP green and VDOP blue. Time of hot start was 47s.

  • Compatible with APM and PixHawk?

  • impressive will you have a flight demo for it soon?
