I just got my i8 and wanted to share what is inside the black box. only 4 screws on the back to remove. A GD32F130 is running the show and there is a Silabs SI2102 on the USB port, so it is not only for charging the Nokia style battery. The RC part is a FlySky FS-HF030B.

How was the process to change to mode 2? It looks like stock is mode 1.
Hmmm, with an Arduino mini you could replace the 6pos with 6 buttons. Light up buttons, even. Heck, one of the buttons could have a flip cover over it.

Yes, you can shave off quite a lot when you don't need to drive an LCD and some buttons for the interface.
