IMU production back up to full speed

The new pick-and-place machine at the DIY Drones factory is now in full production, and we're filling boxes like this with the IMU shields in preparation for the ArduCopter commercial launch and APM public beta code (the code will probably go live tonight). Right now we can make about 120 boards a day, and can ramp up to 150/day if needed. Right now we're filling back orders, but it should be back in stock next week.

Look for pricing and pre-order plans for ArduCopter over the next week. This is going to be big!

  • there is one mediatek gps in stock... does it have a bad battery? or is the problem sorted out?
  • Your holdin $5000 dollars in that box if that is 33 IMUs.

The 10Hz on the MediaTek is just interpolated 4Hz. APM only evaluates the "real" data (4Hz)
  • okay thanks good to know! On the mediatek vs. ublox, are there any relevant differences other than price? Does the 4hz/10hz affect anything? or does the board not take advantage of the increased hz anyways?

Eric: Magnetometers are awaiting sensors, which will be arriving in mid-Oct. We have plenty of uBlox GPS modules in stock (that's what I use). The MediaTeks are temporarily out of stock while we diagnose a QA problem with the batteries, which are draining voltage. It may be a bad batch of batteries, which we've ordered, but we're going to hold off shipping them until we're sorted that out. Should be a couple weeks at most.
  • now that the IMU's are inproduction can I assume that the gps and magnetometer will be back in stock soon as well? :)

Relax guys, that box was just for the picture ;-)

    Chris,

Since the IMU Mega Shield is built using static sensitive devices, are you using ESD protective tubs to hold the Sheilds after they are built?

    TCIII
  • @Chris i would to order the kit. Is that possible to have it as a whole or should ii buy them one by one at the store? I would like to have everything in a box for assembly. Really look forward to official launch. Nice work.

Jordi reported on Twitter that he ran out of Oilpan PCB's!!

Just like Alexanders's post, I also was shocked about the ESD precautions going out the window judging by the pic of the plastic box!
Perhaps you don't have the dryness that we have up here, but we are pretty serious about proper ESD protocol in my workshop.
