It's a good thing most of you were not involved in inventing the car or the spaceship. Get back into your caves.
Yes, it's got problems, issues to overcome but like everything, each progressive version will be better (or he'll stop selling them and go bust).
I could fund a small war in Africa with the amount I have spent on crashed quads all using ArduPilot. From the APM1 -> APM2 with oilpan -> 2.5 - >2.6 and Pixhawk. It's all progressive with each iteration being better than the previous one.
Apparently the FAQ states that no gimbal will be used and the image is cropped digitally instead.
@superwalloon I don't think it would be possible to have a stand alone camera doing Bebop like stabilization when fitted on a drone.
To achieve the best result, one must leverage the drone state estimation and the drone control input in order to know if the image is moving because of random movements or actual user input. This allow then to setup a strategy deciding when to lock the image or not.
So, in my opinion, if you want to get rid of a gimbal and stand alone camera, the only viable solution is a built-in camera and good sofware. Even then, there will be issues like high-frequency vibrations which are difficult/impossible to solve in a software only way. I assule the Lily team is having such an approach.

That's Jussi Oksanen, former Olympian and Burton Snowboards pro rider, and the Rainbow Bridge on Donner Pass above Donner Lake, just up the hill from my house. You can catch a few more (acro) glimpses of the area in one of Charpu's videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLi6rvwUbzE
Other shots in the linked video are from the Bedwell Bayfront Park and the now-demolished American Flat Mill.
Just had an idea about taking blackbox information from Naze32/Cleanflight and using it to help stabilize video in post..... hmmm. Naw, sticking to balanced props and rate mode on a miniquad for now, gimbaled quad later in the backcountry.

I think they've flunked the safety aspect with hand landings and takeoffs. They do have folding props but is that good enough? I wouldn't want one land on my face! BTW how does it know where your hand is to land on it? Does it have real time image recognition and object tracking or does it land on someone else's hand while you have to carefully pilot it from a safe distance? :-s
Doesn't Kickstarter have a "Duty of Care" policy that the Kickstarter projects need to comply to?
When he threw the Lily off the bridge I thought he was going to base/bungee jump after it. That would have been epic! ;-)
@Nicolas If you can make a nice video you can make a million dollars on Kickstarter.

Uhm, considering it has a LiPo battery, I'm pretty sure you have to carry-on.
