Lidar Lite back with V3 after Garmin aquisition

3689700337?profile=original[Updated with more info] Glad to see that the Pulsed Light team, which joined Garmin earlier this year, are back with a new version of the Lidar Light range finder. Not many details yet, but it's now listed for $150 at Sparkfun:

  • Description: It’s back! This is the LIDAR-Lite v3, a compact, high-performance optical distance measurement sensor from Garmin™. When space and weight requirements are tight, the LIDAR-Lite v3 soars. The LIDAR-Lite v3 is the ideal solution for drone, robot or unmanned vehicle applications.

    This easy-to-use 40-meter laser-based optical ranging sensor has all the core features that made the LIDAR-Lite v2 so popular. Small in form and light in weight with low power consumption of less than 130mA during an acquisition. And it’s user-configurable so you can adjust between accuracy, operating range and measurement time.

    Each LIDAR-Lite v3 features an edge-emitting, 905nm (1.3 watts), single-stripe laser transmitter, 4m Radian x 2m Radian beam divergence, and an optical aperture of 12.5mm. The third version of the LIDAR-Lite still operates at 5V DC with a current consumption rate of <100mA at continuous operation. On top of everything else, the LIDAR-Lite is user-configurable, allowing adjustment between accuracy, operating range and measurement time. It can be interfaced via I2C or PWM.

    The 13m offset is a hardware bug in V2 where on power up it would show 13m and never change by much, regardless of what the sensor was actually seeing. The only way to fix it was a power reset of the sensor.
  • What you mean with 13m offset? , It's constant from take off or you are flying and the copter jumps 13 mts? 

    I have a V2 sleeping in his box after some bad experiences (and no support) to try again in another ship in the future.

    @Shan, glad its working. Please let me know if you see the 13m offset issue show up in your flights. That was one of the really big issues with v2 and we never got a satisfactory answer from the PulsedLight people on that.

  • Pwm. Actually i found out the issue. Apparently i had to connect the bec to the aux 1 because even when esc is powering to the pwm 1 to 8 pins it still does not work. Apparently when connecting battery and bec to aux 1 it works well now.

    @Shane, what connection type are you using? PWM or I2C?

  • I got it and installed it to the pixhawk but it is not providing the values for sonarange. I believed the connection for the wires are correct. Red (5v), Black (Ground) and Orange (power enable) to aux 6 and yellow (mode control) with resistor to aux 5.

  • I didn't realize they finally came back. Excellent.

  • I also got one yesterday. I am still to try it out though. Now they are using micro connector so I have to do some work before I can try it. I had ordered V2 from Robot shop when it was back ordered. Then they said that V2 is not available however they will send me V3 as soon as it was available and at the same price. That is how I got it.

  • How did you get ahold of one so early? Are you affiliated with the Kickstarter or Garmin?
