This is a good sign as the next will be milled differently and useing carbon fiber, APM v2 looks good for this.

  • but it also depends on the motors used, in hover @ low altitude iam drawing about 8 - 9 Amps total, above 100ft less throttle to hover, educated guess at about 6 - 7 Amps total..

  • 1.3k is your problem, if you get the down to <1Kg inc the bat then you will be impressed !

  • Wow 25-30 mins flight time, this is a lot of time for a tricopter! Mine only lasts 10 minutes with 3900mAh (1.3kg).

  • Marc you are quite right, but when the next one is done it will have auto leveling, my large one for FPV uses 50cm arms, 800kv, 1047 GWS 3300mA 25 - 30 mins filght time, using the APM v1, but i wonted to build a mini one for indoor, and test robotics using hopfully the APM2 just for the tricopter code, then adding object detection, i have now seen a optical sensor that might be interesting for my project too.

    I guess that using carbon fiber tubes would be good, you could always glue some balsa inside the carbon fiber square tubes for extra rigidity, as some of the smaller square tubes can twist.

  • I always thought that a tricopter must have large arms (>40cm / 16") if you want it to be stable enough. Mine has 55cm / 22".

  • Since 1000mA only give me 7 mins flight, 850 wont give me more, but less, after testing different ones i have come to the conclusion that a 1300mA is the best one and inc bat weight 250g +- 10g based on how i mount it !

    Besides this is only a prototype for a main one ill build better so maybe a better battery, nano tech batts are good for this...

  • That battery looks quite large - I would use one half that size or smaller (850mAh on my quad).

  • For a similar sized quad using 5x3 props I used a flat piece of suitably shaped pcb material which I found more than stiff enough. Just make sure everything is as balanced as you can get it as vibrations are the enemy.
