MinimOSD Setup Video

Hi Everyone. Above is an intro video to the minimosd. It still needs a tiny bit of tailoring but I figured I would send it out to the community for review. A video series like this could be beneficial for our community to grow in the future. Open to adding on a distributor logo for some help supporting my own hobby/builds.

Of course the video is open to criticism and input. They are compiled from scratch in Adobe After Effects/Premiere.

  • Mine's on the way back to 3DR, and like Mario's worked fine before I did the firmware/char update. I too fed from 12v on vid-in side, and 5v on APM side. I suspect I've done the same, but it was in open air, so perhaps a head sink would be a good idea for the dev team? Isn't there now a new and improved Version 2?

  • Gent,

No i dd not feed it by both stages. I did via the 12v, without jumpers, but the board was getting really hot.The board worked fine as shipped, except that i had some msg when booting it saying to load charset at the bottom of the initialisation screen. I had to press the reset button to get it to work, and all was fine untill the next boot. So, since i had not reloaded the charset, i decided to do so. After that , i completely lost video signal. Cant get it back since then. Also, i still get an error while trying to load the charset. (no response). Its not a connection issue, since i can upload the firmware without problems. Again, it might not be related to the charset at all and perhaps the board did heat up and frie, but the result is the same, the board is unusable.

The new board is fine and works great on 5v. Much much ! cooler

Mario, I don't believe your board is fried. Well... at least I've seen other guys having this problem before.

What is corrupted isn't the file, but the internal flash memory of your MAX7456 chip. This chip is a bit picky about the voltage level on it during the CharSet Update. You need to feed it on both stages (tied or not) with sufficient voltage. E.g.: if you have a USB port which gives you 4.8V with a payload instead 5V... it could cause this problem. In the same batch there are chips more "picky" than others (from factory). So, in most of this cases what happens is that the update finishes but in fact the internal flash don't save the data properly. So, you have a chip that shows messed or blank chars.

LOL. We act out sometimes. Anyway, on your first MinimOSD, you connected it to both power sources (5v from APM and 12v from Tx/ Vid Cam) and the board burned? On the second board, it is just powered with from the APM's 5v? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm asking because I also have the MinimOSD but I have not set it up, even just power it up.

  • i hope you guys understand that this Patrice guy is a friend of mine....perhaps, sometimes stupid, but, hey! so am i....

  • LOL

  • Avec des commentaires comme ca sur un forum, ca sent le taxi...
