I know what I'll be doing over the holidays (other than ArduPilot projects and the T3-4 contest): assembling my new MakerBot. An open source 3D printer for less than $1,000. I can make ABS plastic objects with .4mm precision up to 4"x4"x6". What should I make?
Here is a simple platform with integrated Z sensor mount. The studs are for rubber bands around the fuselage.(that's how I mount my other canopies.) You can mount the Ardupilot and radio inverted with velcro and poke holes for the wires and pitot tube. Feedback welcome.
have you guys checked out jasonshort's pan&tilt? shows what is possible with this type of technology although the Makerbots' resolution is not the same but still quite amazing considering the price! Just getting better and better.
I know the guy making the prosthetics. When I met him, he was working out of Lake Tahoe making Pro-engineer based parametric models of Legs using SLS (Selective laser sintering). It was a fantastic project. He could take some basic measurements and adjust his model instantly. One version was targeted at 3rd world countries and had no electronics in it at all, but it had a locking knee.
SLA is a completely different process than the Maker bot which is a fuse deposition modeler. SLA uses a UV laser and photo-reactive chemicals. It's high resolution, brittle and VERY expensive.
Hey Buddy, it's quite amazing ! Our proff. told that there was technique call stero lithograpgy, used to make 3d prototypes of industrial objects.
It seems the same.
I have some "LED" Clips for a lamp conversion you can print for me ;) Hope you like it please let me know and take pics please I'm looking at having this in my budget shortly after christmas I've been following the project for several months and I would love to see some of its work... especially considering I plan on using it for this exact sort of thing in the uav field too!
I made a canopy for my FPV camera using my FDM machine. It's the same concept. It's only 1.5mm wall thickness and weighs~ 25 grams. I'm going to redo it for the AP, remove the camera features and put a mount for the Pitot tube, radio, GPS etc. I'll share this weekend when it's done.
Look over http://www.flickr.com/groups/makerbot while you're waiting at your day job to go home & get some work done. It doesn't print layers as much as it weaves a bead. It could make a mold but not a canopy.
