My Custom Arducopter Frame - Part 2

Here is the laser cut acrylic mocked up...the laser doesn't do well with G10 so I had to find someone that would cut it for me until I build my own router.

Here is the main plate with the carrier boards. I have the vibration mounts(black things) supporting the carrier boards. The APM is mounted on top of the first carrier board with the Xbee on the very top.

here is the bottom half of the copter. the battery tray is on the bottom. the battery slides in between the two pieces.

and lastly, here are both pieces together. the arms will sit between the two big main plates.

i have one g10 piece to cut by hand. i'll post more pics when it's done.

  • -Dany The motor mounts needs more thought. Currently they are very open and susceptible to damage. At some point I would like to design something better and more protective.

Looking foward to seeing your completed build :-)

I am interested in seeing your solution on the motor mount... From my crashing experience (and this is a lot!!) The DIY drones ones do break as per design (Jani!) to protect the arms and to absorb the force of the impact...

On the other hand I see the ones from Roberto on the VRDragon 2.0 to also "shield" the motor with a raised disk... I think this is quite optimal but would like to see how they really perform under direct impact to protect the motors as the regular ones do not protect the motor much...

I think a lot of design assume that the pilot/software/conditions are almost perfect and the low/medium height will not happen too much.. for me this is exactly where I have an issue... I always crash doing simple things close to the ground at medium speed... so I am looking for a solution...

Let us know what your design looks like!

  • I took a picture what I have so far. The black delrin piece on the left is the hinge for my camera mount.

  • Hi Andrew. Ya, it looks like the material for Quad by laser cutting that might be Acrylic and Plywood.

  • -Jiro I haven't had luck cutting much of anything (that is usable for a quad) aside from acrylic. The G10 either burns or doesn't cut. I can't find the happy medium. The laser can cut all kinds of materials, but like i said for the quad, acrylic is the only thing i'm having luck with.

  • I am trying to cut G10 by 70W CO2 laser. It is really hard to cut G10, even 0.5mm thickness. Laser could cut Polycarbonate easily, however it is too soft for Quad.  Are you try other materials by laser cutting?

  • -alex I bought them from this website. overall, they are good mounts. they aren't cheap by any means, but they work well. just make sure you get some with the lowest force rating given that we aren't talking about the heaviest components on the arducopter.  http://www.vibrationmounts.com/Store.asp?Page=Products1.htm

  • From where did you bought the vibration mounts ?
