Align Helicopter APS system features:
1.Semi-autonomous take off / Landing (Activate system, semi-autonomous takeoff into position and altitude hold, hovers in attitude hold with strong holding ability to prevent drifting, suitable for hover and flight training)
2.Failsafe (Activate system, automatic return home during loss of signal situation)
3.Auto flight (Activate system, transmitter can execute multiple waypoint settings, enabling point to point automatic flights.)
4.Emergency bailout stabilization (loss of orientation, activate system, aircraft flips right side up, goes into position and altitude hold hover, and wait for further command).
5.Autonomous return home (Completion of mission, activate return home command)
6.Simple logical setting through transmitter (APS system does not require complex PC setups)
7.Supports software upgrades

@R lefebvre, i still think arduheli is a much much powerful code if the PID's are tuned correctly for align heli. you are a pioneer in tuning the arduheli code for align450. how do u rate the arduheli with align APS. in fact i was able to achieve stablized flight with arduheli about 2 years back.
I'm not. My intention was to describe the process of finding the way to such a stable solution like the align product in the development process.
@Grips, why do you speak as if using APM on a Helicopter is breaking new ground?
Wraith: indeed it is. Real World tests may be a completely different story though. Those heli's may have 10's or 100's of hours of setup time to get them perfect, something the average user is not really putting into their heli's.Adding the system to Joe Schmoe's heli may be a nightmare.
If anything it demonstrates what can be done. We just need to find the way through the forest :)
ETA and price anyone?
well, that's pretty impressive, this is serious motivation to get another heli
Amazing it's taking so long for the traditional hobby vendors to release something. Someday even Horizon will cave in.
I hope so. But still the RTL function of the Align sounds like a great feature.
I emailed DJI about me replacement GPS, and their response was, we are working on it. Hence why I would be keen on the Align APS. RTL is a must have function if your going to have a GPS on board.
I thought DJI had a fix for that? At least a couple weeks ago, they said they did.
I'm not that enthusiastic about the Align APS system. Seems their electronics are pretty mediocre. The fact that it appears you do not need to/cannot program this thing with a PC tells me it's probably fairly limited in it's capabilities and performance. Also, many people don't like Align electronics. Time will tell.
