  • I am very sad now. Boo Hoo.

    I like my CX-20, vat a deal, only $225, got it flying well, it is my 5th larger quad. I have flown with the KK2, APM 2.5, Naza and the Naze32. I am a good flyer but not a super geek tech guy.

    I just installed a Bangood 2 axis gimbal on my CX-20. I had everything working good powering the gimbal off my balance port. Then I decided I should use the 12v plug on the bottom of the copter, within a fraction of a second a big puff of smoke popped out of the body of the cx-20. I pulled the 12v power but I guess the servo wire was trying to power the gimbal also because it kept on twitching.
    I opened up the case, the small power wires from the main power supply over to the 12v plugs were roasted. The flight controller has lights on like it is working, the receiver has lights working, the gps seems to be locking but I now can't arm the copter. I cut the red servo wire to cut the 5v and kept the brown and yellow intact.
    What did I do wrong? Power both 12v and 5v at the same time? What did I burn out that will not allow it to arm? Thanks for the help :)

    When you say you can replace the receiver with a PPM receiver, does that mean you can use a FrSky D4R-II and only use one wire or do you have to have a minimum of 5 channels on the receiver that you physically plug in to? I would much prefer the former to save on cabling but it looks like you have to plug in each channel.

  • yes, many times. tis is rtf version it rebinds every time you power it up. Plus it moves a servo pluged into the receiver directly. Im assuming it has something to do with the apm.

  • I'm having trouble getting the motors to unlock. I've tried all the common fixes. Trims are centered. Switches are up. it performed flawlessly the first two flights. one using the tx the second in auto. I pluged servos into the rx and it moves but they don't show movement in the receiver calibration. I'm at a loss. anyone have any ideas?

    @Jonathan: Here a detailled photo of the ESC used in the CX-20. I have no additional info about this.

    Any insight into the ESC's used in this? Curious if they run something like SimonK firmware or could be flashed to such.

    @Miguel: Thanks for your comments. To answer to your question, there is no trainer port in the heerson/Quanum CX-20 (NOVA) transmitter provided in the ARF kit.

    You may replace the CX20 receiver by a common PPM receiver (i.e. a Turnigy 9X-8C receiver) and use a 9X or 9XR transmitter. This works very well with the APM and I use a such setup in other APM multicopters.

    First of all congratulations for your great job.

    I have one question about Cheerson CX-20 (Quanum NOVA) Transmitter

    Does it have trainer port? In affirmative case with kind of connector?

    Did you recommend the ARF or the bind version? It is easy to unmount the frame to install the receiver?

    Could you make a comparison of pros/cont between Cheerson CX-20 and DJI Phantom

    Here an interesting test about the accuracy of the GPS position hold with the Cheerson CX-20 (Quanum NOVA). The two models have been set in GPS position hold (LOITER) at bout 2 meters above the ground.
    The wind conditions was 9 Km/h, gusting 24 Km/h.
    - The Cheerson CX-20 use an APM v2.5.2 with the ArduCopter v3.1.2 firmware.
    - The DJI Phantom is a v1.0 with the NAZA-M auto-pilot.
    The two models use the default factory settings.
