New Easy Star Accessory - Electronics Chassis

3689420649?profile=originalHello Everyone

The Easy Star Electronics Chassis is being added to the DIY Drones store today. This accessory allows you to mount your APM/Oilpan, GPS Module (Mediatek or uBlox), Differential Pressure Breakout, Receiver, and pan/tilt camera mount on your Easy Star. The chassis provides access to the CLI switch, USB connector, and the Reset button as well as providing a clear view of the ‘ABC’ LED’s on the Oilpan at all times. It is also compatible with two GPS modules; the uBlox module can be mounted to the vertical plate near the back and the Mediatek gps module fits perfectly on the shelf above that (or you could use some double sided tape and stick any module anywhere). Most receivers should fit on the top base and can easily route wires to the APM beneath. The APM is mounted on the bottom and once it is mounted there is no reason to take it out as everything is accessible, but if the need arises, the bottom plate is designed to pop out more easily than the rest of the chassis so there is no need to take it all apart.

The chassis will be sold in two configurations, one with the pan/tilt camera mount (which you might recognize from Jeff’s post earlier in the week) and one without. Hope you like it and happy flying.

ps. we have flown this with the camera configuration as shown and having the camera off center doesn’t seem to pose a problem. Mounting it this way allows for a less obstructed view, as well as the ability to look down :).

  • I found using 3 zip ties a good solution. I didn't get the ties tight enough, so I used the packaging the APM and IMU came in underneath the board:

Sorry for the typos. iPhone on a plane

Your preference. If you are I always like screwing it down with some dampened under the apm. However lately I've been flying quads with double sided tape under the apm and it works just fine. So it is up to you. The hole pattern is provided bit you don't need to use it.
  • I just got this product, and I was wondering, is the ArduPilot Mega board suppodes to be screwed or glued/taped to the base plate?

    Simon, looks great!

  • Chassis for Bixler

Here's my version which I put together for my Bixler. Material is 2.3mm ply (~3/32"). The APM tray is a little deeper and longer to fit my mounting configuration. If anyone is interested I can make the CAD file or pdf version available.

    @lionel,

I have modified a Readymaderc Twinstar II Pod to hold the AMP/IMU. The AMP/IMU sits on a shelf below the top of the Pod so that the IMU connectors and switches are above the top of the Pod. Not hard to do.

    Stefan,

The longest one that the DIY Drones Store sells. Mine is ~30cm long.

Which length for the GPS cable is recommended?

    Hi all,

I received my EZ* electronic chassis on Friday and spent a little time on Saturday putting it together. I mocked it up prior to CAing it together. I sanded the blade pieces so that the CA could bite into the carbon fiber when the blade was inserted into the CA in each slot. I used CA accelerator to get a good bonding of the CA in each slot.

If some small extensions are attached to the vertical sides of the chassis, like on the Readymaderc pod, it may not be necessary to use magnets on the front part of the chassis to hold it in the cockpit.

    Regards,

    TCIII
