New UAV company

I've been hearing about a new UAV company called Whisper Aerospace that's focused on the low end of the nascent domestic commercial sector. Founders include our own Patrick Egen and Lucien Miller, the electrical engineer who does the terrific Power Systems Corner on the All Things That Fly podcast and runs Inno8tiveDesigns.

The company is still in stealth mode, but here's what they are saying about their plans:

"Whisper Aerospace is a new company founded by a group of individuals with a very diverse range of technical skills, all working to create and bring to market the first Commercial/Civilian UAVs that will be able to fly in the NAS (National Airspace System). Our UAVs will feature reasonable payload capacity and operational performance, thereby offering clients considerable flexibility in solving their needs for an airborne platform that is not hampered by the relatively low performance and restricted operational capabilities of current systems. Multiple communications protocols and power sources will be available inside our standardized payload modules in order to make it easier to integrate client hardware. Our ground control systems will be very user-friendly and offer a wide range of options and customizable features."

Okay, I'll bite. Aside from representing the interests of RCAPA, his organization, what's his agenda?
  • Patch nails Egan in an nutshell. Sorry Chris but the guy is a BS artist and out for his own interest. Every UAV company who is establishing in the commercial space sees what he is trying to do. There is a deep agenda here and if you read through all the other posts and threads in other sites you can clearly clearly see that. I have a few close friends on the committee and I can tell you he has an AGENDA!!!

Sorry thats a bit of a rant, and something I try not to do, your right, its easier to follow the pack and say Patricks the devil

He's hated by the community because he's right. Most RC types have firmly stuck their heads in the sand or look the other way. Think of it this way, if he was not on the committees then I believe there would be absolutely no RC represenation at all. If you want the rule book written by Aerovironment and Boeing the continue as you are.

Folks, try to see past Patrick's style (which can be abrasive, I grant you) and recognize that he is working within the system to encourage a rational regulatory system. This is a thankless job, but I for one am glad he's doing it.
  • Let’s see…
You should fly safe, if you’re flying commercially you’re violating most CAA policy. You shouldn’t fly beyond VLOS. Get involved in the process and affect positive change instead of just cashing in. While on the subject of cashing in… I support a free market system instead of bashing folks for no conforming to your thinking. The method has all of the panache of a 7th grade locker room.

I could go on, but do I need to?
  • Still can't, no hidden agenda and no foam planes!
  • I always wondered why he is so hated by the community.

Yes, this spring I would see him jump into alot of the threads at RCGroups and repeat every time: "You can't do that! It's against the regs!", and now here he is involved in a commercial venture intending exactly the things he said we couldn't do!
  • Pop over to Runryder.com and have a gander at PatrickEgan's posts, and the ensuing flame wars. Egan is just a handful of BS wrapped up in a hidden agenda. I'm surprised he's not here looking for more assistance writing his rcapa notes for him......
