  • Hi Hooks,

Your owl looks fantastic. I am totally new to this whole drone thing but from what I see here I think this would make a good starting point on the learning curve. My friend (Web designer) and I (Electronics technician) would both be very interested in one each. Looking forward to how the Owl pans out.

    Cheers Ian

    Button
I promis more will come when one sample is ready.
But I can say - it's hard work.

The wings will either be made in balsa or glassfiber - I would like to make a model which can take a little beating in landings, I think the balsa are a little too fragile but the weight also need to be in the low end.
  • Hi Hooks,

Your mouldings look great, tell us a little more about how the plane is made, were the plugs hand carved? Are the wings vacuum bagged? etc, etc.

    Cheers,

You only buy the platform, the rest is up to each. I know people has diffrent opinion about servos, motors and camera ect. So yes you will need some working yourself before it's in the sky.

were you thinking about something like this.

    20 cm and made of strong plastic... 4 = 25 $
  • just how much will have to be built?shake the box add the goodies and fly or more building?

"I know the OWL are not for rc beginners, you need to know a little about CG to have succes. But I think that most people in here are advanced RC users."
When you add 100g at the front (on the field, in a hurry), you must either add 100g in the back or move the wing. 100g is the difference between digital cam and flycamone v2 for example. Good you predicted the necessity of rail with counterweight.
BTW before going pro think about Picatinny.

    As you know!
Everything is possible, but the OWL v.1 is a low budget plane made for FPV / UAV.
For the front I can say that I'm working on using a glass ball from a doomcamera. It need to be modyfied for fitting the front.
I know the OWL are not for rc beginners, you need to know a little about CG to have succes. But I think that most people in here are advanced RC users.
About the CG I was thinking about mounting a small track under the belly with a small moverable weight appeared. This way it's possible to adjust balance on the plane so the right CG would be able to find without moving the battery and so on... The weight appeared are only for fine adjustment (10-20 g).
    Hope you understand my point.
