Paparazzi ported to MacOSX

3689389099?profile=originalWe don't hear much about Paparazzi here, which may be due to any number of factors: Linux-only software, frequently unavailable hardware and an older thermopile design that has had a bumpy road to the IMU era. But the first of those problems may be coming to an end. The Paparazzi team has announced that an initial release of a Mac OSX port is now available.
"After a very busy holiday period the Paparazzi developer team are very pleased to announce the initial release the Mac OSX port of Paparazzi.

Although this release is a couple of weeks later than expected, the team is satisfied that this port will be easy to install and run. This first release still retains the look and feel of its Linux sibling as currently it uses X windows for rendering. This is due to change, as the graphics library used by Paparazzi (GTK+) is improving its support for the native quartz engine found in Mac OSX. This improved version of GTK+ is due for release at the beginning of March. The team are tracking this and expect a more native look and feel version of Paparazzi to follow this release."

  • @RH1N0: Yes, it should fly the Lisa/L, Booz, I am going to connect it to a  TWOG and a KK MultiCopter myself. URL here: https://store.ppzuav.com/osc/product_info.php?products_id=129 (not sure how to put a URL in ning).

No, I have not yet flown with it. A note. X/Y need to be swapped on the MAG. was more compact to lay it out this way and just swap the values in code.

@HappyKillmore, the Mac port was probably a lot simpler since they're using X11 on the max.  With that and the underlying Unix OS, it's a much simpler porting problem than going to another OS such as Windows.

Hi David, do you have the 9DOF IMU in stock and have you flown with it?

  • @HK: yep, that's my site. Certs are a scam. In the beginning they were actually hard to get with lots of validation. Not anymore. It's just about the money now. JobyRobotics.com is the best place to get the latest. I have a lot of TWOG left so no one should worry about getting them for some time.
Why not making TWOG and Older Paparazzi autopilots? Same reason DIY doesn't sell the orig. ArduPilot. When they are out they are out and it's time to buy the new ones. I'm not making the new ones because someone else does at a reasonable price. I'll get the Lisa/M there like everyone else.

I am flying now with OSX using my MacBook Air. With the SSD drive the battery lasts a really long time. It was aways a pain running out of battery on the laptop while at the site.

Almost finished my 283g wing. 27" wingspan and it can climb vertical. I have XBee XSC on it. My version of the AV Wasp.

  • I get a certificate error too....but I went ahead and navigated to the site even though IE recommended against it....

So I guess then there will be 2 manufacturers of Paparazzi; aerofu.com and jobyrobotics.com

and neither carries TWOG... but I guess I don't know anything about the different auto pilots that run Paparazzi...so maybe that's not a problem?

David runs PPZUAV (yes, he's bmw330). The site gives me a certificate error, so can't check current status.
  • David, why aren't you selling them anymore? What was your website? Are you bmw330i frim RCG?

Unfortunately, hardware can't be fully community supported. If a board isn't working right (or, more commonly, a customer thinks it isn't working right due to setup error), people will want to return it somewhere for inspection/repair/return. A community can't do that--it would become our problem and we're not set up to handle it with a system we don't know intimately.
  • Paparazzi is community supported. If you sold it on DIY everyone would help. I would. When my batch of TWOG are gone I don't plan to have more made so someone needs to make them. Have Jordi email me any questions with the BOM or ?

I wish you were right, but unfortunately customers don't see it that way. If they can't get something we sell working, they expect us to sort it out, even if the problem lies in someone else's software. I speak from much painful experience :-(
