Pixhawk is Ready for Takeoff

3689562888?profile=originalAfter months of rigorous testing, we are pleased to announce that our Pixhawk autopilot is now in production and ready to ship.

Designed by the PX4 open-hardware project and manufactured by 3D Robotics, Pixhawk delivers industry-leading performance and flexibility for controlling any autonomous vehicle.

Our new Pixhawk represents a significant improvement over our standard APMs, offering enhanced reliability, robust power, a broad range of USB power options and a second sensor port – for a dual IMU system. The second sensor chip not only provides redundancy, but enables the combination of different sensor inputs.

This release follows months of beta-testing by the IRIS-Developer community.  Based on their feedback, we improved the noise immunity of the power supplies and added the MPU 6000 to supplement the LSM303D accelerometer.

We are grateful to the community for their valuable feedback.

  • Too rich for my blood, I can't speak for everyone else but this is a hobby for me not a career..… can't afford to play if prices are too high the crash risk is always present...... most successful companies manufacture overseas to bring prices to a more affordable level ..... I pay $229 for a tablet to use as a ground station and its way more advanced than any flight controller ..…how come the tablet doesn't cost $2000?!?!

  • I don't know if that counts as "redundancy" ;) in aviation terms... but still it's nice to have, two sensors are always better than one ;)
If it said a " dual gyro/acc setup" it would have been clearer :) anyway great hardware :)
Now I wouldn't mind a Christmas sale on Pixhawx :)
BTW when can we expect the new airspeed sensor ( and in what price range? ) ?

  • The Pixhawk has 32-bit processing power, so it's more powerful. It can support virtually unlimited waypoints.

  • Hi Wojciech, Pixhawk contains a second accelerometer, the MPU 6000, for added redundancy within the board between the two sensors. Hope this answers your question. Happy flying!

  • I got an X8 a month ago with APM 2.6 - how do I upgrade to Pixhawk and what benefit does it have?

  • What do you mean by "second sensor port" ? Is it an SPI , i2c  or CAN bus ?

I'd very much like to see a ported version of the barometer as an additional sensor option, could provide a better static pressure from a pitot tube and maybe vario input ftom some sort of TEK compensation.
Could be a nice alternative for a glider vario systems with all the telemetry you could need true wind estimation  and so much other useful autopilot functions :)

Cant wait to get my hands on one of those...

  • Developer

APM 2.6 will still be available for a while.

    Jason

  • "Legacy APMs"
It was my understanding that APM is marketed more towards hobbyist and PIXHAWK is more for developers and more advanced users...
Just to clarify, will apm 2.6 still be avaliable?
  • Really happy to see that the Pixhawk is now actually debugged and available.

It provides plenty of capability and headroom for all the new stuff we want to do over the next year or two.

    Definitely opens things up.

  • Let's see what this bad boy can do. Can't wait!
