With a long term reputation, hobbywing are quadcopter motors whose track record speaks volunes. Having provided best results for along time, you can trust them as well.

You need to consider below parameters when choosing your quadcopter brushless motor:

1. Voltage.

2. Thrust.

3. Efficiency.

4. Current draw.

5. Response.

6. Props.

7. Vibration.

8. Temperature.

9. Type of magnet.

10. The shaft.

Therefore, What's the best brushless motor for quadcopter? Brushless motors are typically 85–90% efficient or more, higher efficiencies for a brushless electric motor, of up to 96.5%, whereas DC motors with brushgear are typically 75–80% efficient.

Brushless motors are great for several reasons:

  • They have very high power density (in terms of size and weight)

They’re incredibly efficient so they generate very little heat,no wear or contact items (such as brushes) and can spin incredibly fast.

  • It’s very easy to control their speed precisely and adjust it quickly

Power density is incredibly important because on anything that’s flying you want to do everything you can to minimize weight.

  • They’re inexpensive to manufacture

Nobody complains when components are inexpensive.

  • @John HengLi? Sorry, I rarely hear about it.

  • There's has been a huge proliferation of BL motors for multirotor use over the past 2 years. I remember when Sunnysky 2204-2300KV and Cobra 2204(5)-2300KV were so difficult to find. People waited months to get their hands on them. Now, there's so many good choices it's difficult to decide which one to use!

Lots of data on static thrust tests and overview of many multirotor motors, worth checking out

    and of course : https://www.youtube.com/user/EngineerX/videos

  • Out of the many motors I've used, KDE would be at the top. I have 14 2814XF-515 KDE motors installed on 3 different copters (1 Y6, 2 quads). They are very powerful, versatile, quiet and the triple ABEC-7 bearing configuration makes them stand out from the crowd. 200+ hours between bearing maintenance. Even TM can't come close to that.

    No, I don't sell them :)

  • Developer

Been some years since my last purchase, but HengLi has been my go to brand for proper factory balanced motors at a reasonable price (compared to some other brands).

  • Here's launchpoint demoing their 1.5KW UAV genset underslung on a DJI S1000, notably the pancake generator is flat relative to the ground on the bottom. Wonder how serious the torque is...

  • Shame Launchpoint isn't publically selling their dual halbach axial motors. They claim pretty high power density that is pretty impressive (5hp/lbs), and DARPA/NASA is still funding their technology expansion research. Notably they seem to pushing into gensets for series hybrid electric UAV's at the moment. But their achilles heel is that they are pancake motors, so pretty wide (6 inches!)

    Halbach Array Electric Motor
Launchpoint has developed an electric motor that gives better power and efficiency performance per pound than any other motor commercially available.
  •  I DO agree with @Dwgsparky to a degree. Multistar is a high-efficiency brushless motor which offers the best spinning power. You experience is more convincing! Thank you for your sharing.

.maybe value for money should be a consideration. its not always about ultimate power but reliability and cost are just as important

I vote for the Multistar range and being good, reliable and tough as nails.

I dropped my Hex from 30 feet at high speed and it cartwheeled across the tarmac. broken props and legs were the only damage, It was flying again in 10 minutes with no vibration issues at all.

  • Thanks for the cool article!  This will get some people talking.

    BEST REGARDS!

  • KDE is by far the highest performing motors on the market.  They have basically unmatched efficiency and absolutely excellent quality.  I would have to say that DJ with its tuned propulsion systems also produces some of the highest efficiency motors but their quality good but is not quite as good as KDE.

I would also like to point out that kde even provides the exact plans for their motor test rig so that all of their performance data can be repeated.
