Quick Post: ArduPilotMega Shield/OilPan Photos!

Is not ready yet, has tiny mistakes, but the tweaked boards is under the last hardware performance test's , as soon as i get an answer, I will start the mass production... ETA two weeks! (Maybe sooner).

The shield can be bottom placed (oil pan) or in the top (Shield). I would suggest the bottom side so you protect the IC's and have a lower profile!

Poll: Do you prefer the Shield in Red or Blue?

See ya!

  • I prefer red. It suits the Ardupilot Mega board much better.

Hein, the new shield doesn't contain a magnetometer onboard.
You can see the details here: http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/ardupilot-mega-updates-updates
  • Hi Jordi / Doug,

Does this new shield also include 3 x magnetometer? What other sensors? I think color blue makes sense. Telemetry green and control boards - red. Nice project.

  • So NICE!

I can't wait to try one out!
  • Blue!!! Define control boards as Red, and Sensors as Blue!!, Data / Telemetry Green!!!
  • Must be awesome to have an autopilot system for a fixed wing aircraft. I only have some moderate experience flying quadrotors, but would like to build a fixed wing aircraft some day. To have an automatic stabilization system would be fantastic. :)

Yes, something is going on between DIYDrones and AeroQuad... You will know more details later.... ;-)

    Hello Felix,

This is a sensor board for ArduPilot Mega. ArduPilot Mega is this communities next generation autopilot and is based on the Arduino Mega with the 1280 processor. The main board handles the interface with the r/c receiver and servos and has the main processor. The "shield" or "oil pan" includes all the sensors - gyros, accelerometers, pressure sensor, etc.

AeroQuad could possibly be ported to it. I don't know anything about AeroQuad so someone else will have to answer if this can be done. We are developing firmware for fixed wing aircraft at present.
  • Hi, could someone please fill me in on what this does? I am from the AeroQuad forum and haven't been following what's going on on this forum. Is this going to work with the AeroQuad code or is it something completely different from it? Thanks all.

    Felix

@Mark: Thank you for the infos! Man... I really don't care about the board color. My quad is like a rainbow... Red Seeeduino, Blue ArduIMU with red gyros, green pressure sensor (I thinking about a black GPS). When I change to ArduPilot Mega, even with two colors, I will reduce the palette anyway. :)

@Jordi: OK, man! In fact, I wanna buy it from DiyDrones. I will appreciate if that new way give to us more options about some shipment details. There are a particular resource at the Sparkfun's form that make things much more easy to people like me, outside the EUA. Many times I wanted to buy from you, but I opted for their store because of that little drop-down field.

Sorry typo 180mm about 7'', A ParkZone Stryker_II, but I am installing MegaPilot on a Ventus 2HX also.
