This idea has been around for a while I have seen it done before but this is a more elegant solution than the previous one.
Just imagine not thinking about a pan and tilt set up.
The Gorgon stare on a budget.

I can see a 36 armed spherical multicopter with a camera at the tip of each arm, isolated from vibrations. It's bit FPV, it will be call OPV. (Omni-Person-View)
Here's a SITE where you can post your own photos and build a spherical panorama. I did a little experimenting and it's pretty easy and petty neat.
Not far at all if you do not need it in real time.

A point cloud from this would be extremely cool. Does this mean we can slap some cameras on a copter, fly around a bit, and then have a real 3d environment to navigate in? How far away are we in expense and processing power for this kind of magic?
sweet is there any way to trigger it without throwing it i wonder it would be awesome on any aircraft and this idea would be great for video also. oh my, so many possibilities. where do i get one
Yep just what I was thinking
Nice, I bet structure from motion could be used to create a point cloud.
Great idea Gary, I love it.
Call me immature, but I enjoyed the follow-on Youtube clip as well...
Cool gadget and good idea!
