Comments were based on the SRF02 showing as ten quid here:

Agreed, it's about $25 elsewhere. Maxbotix also have some smack talk about the SRF02 here:

Their comparable sensor (EZ04) is about $30.
  • @LEON

do you have method or link to- of integrating the" "polaroid" sonar"?
  • For automatic take off and landing, you should consider using a "polaroid" sonar, with more power. Polaroid sonars can reach greater measurement distances, and are less sensitive toward the material of the obstacle measured.

  • The SRF02 is $25 or higher any place I looked. But, it may be easier to use. I think the range is 7 inches to 8 feet if I read the specs.
The advantage of the ping unit is it can measure down to 1 or 2 cm and out to 11 feet or so.

  • @Florian
Yes, that is the sensor I used.

  • Yea, I saw the 2 sets with power and ground. Because the ping needs power and ground I think you are right in one of those being a better option.
    Thanks

This is relatively large and expensive compared to e.g. the SRF02:

    http://www.robot-electronics.co.uk/htm/srf02tech.htm

It also requires pulse width measurement, whilst the SRF02 will give you actual distance, calibrated, over I2C.

  • Hi Earl,
do you use this one? http://itp.nyu.edu/physcomp/sensors/Reports/ParallaxUltrasonicDista...

    Greetings,

  • There are pins that you can use that aren't taken up by other bits of hardware (in this case the relay). The ATMega 1280 analog pins are brough out to the holes on the IMU that are above the receiver wires. As well there are another pair (with power and gnd) on the left hand side of the board (based on your picture above) just under the DataFlash chip.

Might be a cleaner option instead of using the pin for the relay.

    chris.
  • Darren, I will check it out.
You do see the ping library file and put it in your arduino library ?
