The Modular Testing Platform 2 flies! It flies really well!

I had a great hand toss takeoff, a rough start as I figured out the control sensitivities and trim, some good cruise around time, and a perfect landing.

Any improvements you think I should make? Here is my planned list for the next episode:

-Motor mount location (to make it more inline with the center of drag)

-Landing nose design (to allow for softer landings)

-Smaller control surfaces (to reduce control over sensitivities)

-Tighter servo mounts (reduce servo play)

-Level control surfaces (both the ailerons and elevator are not level when the controller is neutral)

  • I think Don means to move the CG point further forward (by moving the wing) and not moving the weight forward with it, will make it tail heavy. Of course adding weight behind a currently stable CG will make it tail heavy.

  • Moving the CG further forward will make it more tail heavy. Moving the CG back will shift some of that tail weight to the front...

  • "If your plane IS really sensitive to pitching up (which it looks like it was) that is normally an indication that your CG is to far forward, move it back a hair at a time and keep trying. What doesn't make sense is on a plane with a CG to forward you normally see a bit of down elevator trim, yours looked level. Is your elevator level with the rest of the airframe?"

Shouldn't the statement be the opposite.  If it is pitching up then it is tail heavy. Move the CG forward.

  • Don: The vert.stab. is pretty straight... I think its overly sensitive due to the wing location, as it is in the middle it allows a pretty 1:1 ratio for leverage one the airplane's nose... just a theory.
  • I meant "Stab" in my last sentence above, not elevator. Is your horizontal stabilizer level with the rest of the airframe.

  • Great Job!

I have built many scratch built and home brew airframes, CG is interesting at times :)

  • Nice efforts, power seems low.

  • Nice job!
