The dry Stanford lake bed

is a long long long drive from the east bay on 25mph roads. Then on weekdays you're greeted with permit parking only, anywhere within 1/2 mile of the lake bed. Fortunately, U can park in the golf course parking & walk 1/2 a mile to get in.It has scattered tall weeds, making landings tricky.

It's a very large area with spectacular views from 400ft, if you've come prepared as we have.

These R all 8 megapixel images. Because we're using a very aggressive takeoff program, sometimes these overshoot to 426ft before settling at 400ft.

  • The stabilization is done on Cinelerra, not very useful for diydrones.
  • Jack, Great photography! You really piqued my interest so I took a drive over there today. I've taken numerous classes at Stanford over the years and never realized they had this gem hidden away so well on campus. I explored every possible parking area around and you're right - the golf course is the only close parking available without a permit. I finally ended up at the driving range and that was a little over a 1/4 mile away. But, what a place to fly! At least 400x400 meters of clear area in a peaceful and remote setting.
The best part were the two boats sitting out on the ground awaiting some water to fill in the dry lake.
Thanks for the tip and videos - Dedadz
