I have the smartieparts dot com board and love it!
I went back to stock firmware for a day, in order to help a friend through some programming. But went immediatly back to the er9x firmware. I had also loaned the board to another diydrones member, to program his due to backorder on smartieparts, but can testify "I really missed the backlight sooooooo much!" :) I dont think I'll be doing that again ;)
I also took out the stock radio module by desoldering the antenna cable, then resoldering it through a small hole under the label. Here is pics.
I did that so I could swap it back and fourth for the FrSky module two way telemetry, you can see it behind the HK-V2 module in that pic.
I just bought one of these, I plan on using the ER9x firmware (need to buy a programmer), and a Scherrer LRS uhf system (with a JR module plug that will work with the 9x). Seems the 1k ohm resistor mod is needed for this too, i'll have to wait and see.
@Hai Tran and Tasso - Or for a little more money you can use this one: DHT (comes with a RX) and just remove the internal antenna of the 9X. The module is pin compatiable with the 9X.
@ Hai Tran For use with a sim you need to cut a trace and add a 1k ohm resister like in this video. So you can keep your FRSKy DIY Mod and still use in a sim. Watch this Youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD6Gia4G7Go
I would be weary of the FrSky receiver, I used a 8 channel unit and FrSky tx unit in my Futaba T9CP. I had lots of problems, flips and crashes. Investigating you could see the ACM outputs doing weird things. I went back to Futaba 35mHz and everything was okay. Maybe FrSky frame rate is different.

yes it is night an day.
thanks for all the info, I'm still waiting on the smartieboard to arrive, from the training videos the ER9 firmware looks a lot better than stock.

@Tassos here is a good video on the FRSKY DIY mod. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHnV6hGH108

Hai, I have both the smartieboard, the FrSky and the ER9X. And I must say, they're great.
And the Simulator still works here (Xplane connected via phone jack)
HI can you please provide a link for the diy Frsky mod for the 9x?
Thank you in advance
Yes the beeps are very annoying. But after some minutes of soldering some cables,
and a short programming action (ER9X) with my ATMEGA Programmer the beeps were gone :)
