(CNN)Two airplanes flying near one of the nation's busiest airports each came within 100 feet of a drone on Friday, according to audio from each flight's radio calls.

The first, JetBlue Flight 1843, reported spotting a drone at 2:24 p.m. while approaching John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. In the audio recording, the cockpit says that the drone passed just below the planes nose when the jet was flying at an altitude of about 800 to 900 feet.

Then at about 5 p.m., Delta Flight 407 -- which had 154 people on board -- was preparing to land when the cockpit reported seeing a drone below its right wing.

Both planes landed safely and each incident are being investigated by the FAA, though it's unclear whether the two incidents are related.

  • Pilots also see UFOs and no one is making a law regulating UFOs.
Come on... this guys can see eye naked a flat (under 1m diameter) static object  in the air passing by at 400 km/h??

I can barely see my Tarot 680 at 250 meters away with a perfect blue sky in background... what about a complex textured background such as the ground.
    Hard to believe.

  • So close positions may be detect  the aircraft radar.

Like bird it's not usefull for prevention but enough for detection

Apropos  the USA aviation representatives reported about 1000 birdstrike w the general

    aviation aircraftats only at 2012.

Time to stop trash talking and start normal work?

Drones like birds - we see same problem resolving in both case

  • 100KM

I always log my flights so that I can show I was flying under 400 ft.

Kind of ironic that a RC aircraft flying field at "Floyd Bennett Field—part of Gateway National Recreation Area—is now dedicated to the celebration of aviation history,"  are being used to fan anti-drone hysteria.

Continued more bad press for legitimate sUAS hobbyists.
