James Masterton has been experimenting with UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) off the Perth coastline to see if they might help spot sharks. Here he shares his experiences and provides some clues as to what now needs to be done if UAVs could be part of the solution.

If you want shark photos, go where they like to eat: surfers! Just kidding - but in this photo, there are about 115 Leopard sharks and one surfer. They are only about 3 to 4 feet long and pose no threat. Taken on March 1, 2009 next to Morro Rock, California with a Canon SD1100 w/CHDK on board a Radian 2 meter.
