  • Yep I have charged that battery.  One question is how do I make the throttle point lower?

  • Bradley,

I really dislike programming ESC's but have had them get reprogramed when trouble shooting using different stick positions.  I haven't used the ESC's from 3DR, there is an instruction sheet in the Store for the ESC and it explains the programing process.  Check the programming to comfirm the ESC is properly programed if you haven't already done so.  Not just end points but the other "features" like low voltage cutoff and battery type.  I am assuming you are using a fully charged battery and have recharged it after hours of troubleshooting.  Things don't work right when the battery is low.

I think your low throttle setting was right on the edge of being low enough.  It started because the signals from the different output pins can vary a little and that's what got your ESC to start.  If it start it should be fine.  I would set the ESC throttle calibration lower.  Temperature can make the ESC PWM vary and you may see the problem again if you do not set the throttle calibration lower.  It has happened to me in the last five years that I've played with quads.

  • Thank you everybody who has help me with this.  I can assure you that there will be no lift off until I get the new ESC. and from that some more testing to make sure that its all good.

Ed, I might look into soldering all connections for the ESC's and other things to ensure that it is all good.  I had thought about that earlier and I might just do it while I wait on the ESC.

  • In a way I think Arehead was right when he talks about the throttle position not being low enough.  I did not do anything with the trim.  But plugging into a different position I heard one tone and then it started working.

  • Bradley,

I used to make up nice power distribution harness with seperate plugs for each ESC until one of the plugs was faulty and the ESC would fail.  Now I solder all the power wires and most of the time I solder the motor wires and not use plugs at all, good connections are critical.  It woud be prudent to replace the ESC unless you find a problem with the wiring.

  • Buy the way this is the 3DR kit that I bought with the 880kv motors.  I have no idea who manufactured the ESC.

  • I had a similar frustrating problem with 3dr ESC new years' eve. The problem was I did not understand the TUNES of the ESC, they make several tunes and you can get confused which was is the FIRST SERIES OF BEEPS, at any rate I finally tried all the possible tunes and gaps of silence and one worked on ALL FOUR motors.

The way I solved the problem was I placed my two fingers on the motor and felt the STRONGer vinbration of the correct TUNE.

    Hope this is helpful

  • Yes chris,  If it was a airplane I probably wouldn't really concern me since you can land those on a dead stick.  But with a quad you have no room for error.

  • Bradley, I think that answered the question, ESC sounds dodgy... not sure I'd trust my quad using it 400 feet up...

As the old wise ones say....."problems that go away by themselves, tend to come back by themselves"...

Drone flying to non visible point

Hi there,I encountered a problem, while flying in auto mode, with approching to point that was not set by trajectory and is not visible after downloading mission from flight controller by Mission Planner. Does anybody encountered similar problem. The situation is that in the middle flight I stopped the UAV and uploaded new mission and after changing to auto mode it starts to fly in some direction. It goes straight to some point, so I assume it's not mechanical problem. I attached the link to…

Will AHRS_ORIENTATION=8 for Arducopter 3.2.1 on APM 2.5 using a traditional Heli

I have been Reading Chris Olsen posts and watching his videos on Arducopter with traditional Helis using a Pixhawk.I have inherited an older Trex 450 heli with the old Align 3G FBL hardware.  The FBL controller appears to be bad.  So I have an old APM 2.5 without a compass or GPS on board.  I just want to replace the failed Align 3G FBL system with the APM.Now I have to mount the APM under the skids on the heli so the APM will be upside down.I have Two questions.1)  Is the AHRS_ORIENTATION=8…
