  •   EMS just delivered the X-8 that I ordered without motor, prop or servos.

    Planning to use:

    Scorpion II 3026 -710

    75 amp Castle ICE ESC

    Haven't choosen servos yet.

13/8 prop thru 11/8 prop (can use 3s or 4s)

    Already have:

    Ardupilot 2.5, older U-Blox GPS

3DR 915 data radios, but plan to upgrade to the 1 watt version for the air and already have a 915 3 watt amp for the ground station

    TSLR Radio and Reciever

Calculating total flying weight at about 96 ounces with camera and video transmitter

    Any suggestions or comments?

  • yes i went with scorpion 3020 890kv and it takes a 6000 4s to get it right with nothing on it

  • The room inside the X8 is not a reality when in comes to flying... up front where you want to house all camera gear becomes cluttered with batteries because of CG on this monster, you want the lightest motor you can find.

  • a 730kv - puts out about 3.3kg of thrust, 80amp ESC

  • glen what motor is that ?

  • Nice... Thanks all.

I'm still minus motor, prop and servos... still playing with my Skywalker but i'll get round to the X8 soon. Can't get over how much room there is inside!

  • i used tape on mine, white 2 run the next one i got lined up a little better

  • Actually I think because it is so thin it tends to curl and you can correct it with hot water but I just manipulated it by bending in the opposite direction by hand until they aligned...worked fine material is quiet strong and does not break but just manipulate slowly in opposite direction.

  • Hi all!

Just a quick question about the x8.

I have the first generation X8 and was wondering if anyone could tell me what the differences are between the 1st and second generation models.

I noticed on the X8 i received, the trailing edge of the wings doesn't seem to line up with the blended fuselage. I am referring to the wing route at the trailing edge. It seems like there has been a moulding error but maybe this is how they are supposed to be.

It looks like some of the aircraft I have seen on youtube videos have this area aligned and well blended.... are they just using tape to align this area... or is it a different modification?

Has anyone noticed any differences between the black and the white models? or is it a case of different colour.... but same mould.

    Cheers for your help.

    John

Skywalker X8 Launcher Plans

I recently built an X8 launcher and thought that I would share the plans. The legs are removable, but at the moment, not adjustable. The trigger isn't anything special and I hope to modify it eventually. It currently is made up of a door hinge with springs welded between it and an extension on the top. The launcher that I built is rather heavy given that it is made out of iron, but the design it is based off of is made out of aluminum. Here is the link to the bungee that I…

I am considering getting to the X8-M for the 2D mapping and the option for 3D point clouds. The frames appear to be the same as the X8+. Is it possible to change out the mapping camera with the Tarot 2D Gimbal Kit as an optional accessory?ThanksJason
