  • Mike, per 3d Robotics, if you have Telemetry setup you can set any mode you want via a connected PC on the fly at any time.  When I want to set it too learning, I can set that via my netbook an then toggle to auto or normal via my 2 position toggle.

This also means I can have more modes an not be restricted by my radio.  Since I am building a rover, I would have been happy with a switch on the rover for these 3 modes.

How will you toggle learning new waypoints or clear learned waypoints?
  • For anyone else who wants to know this answer as they try to plan out their purchases, I have found out today that a 3 position toggle is not mandatory if you dont mind setting the mode (Normal/Auto/Learn) via Telemetry with a Laptop/PC.

Moving forward with my build, I will be keeping the DX5e an setting the 2 position toggle with Normal an Auto.  I will set the APM into learn mode via my PC when needed.

Next weekends plan will be to get the new Receiver installed an purchase the APM 2.5 w/Telemetry kit as well as a FPV setup.  Then start planning the install on my Crawler which is a Axial SCX10 Jeep Rubicon.

  • Question for the people in this group.  Is there any other method to set Normal/Auto/Lean on APM 2.5 other than via a 3 position toggle on the transmitter?  Has anyone developed a switch to be directly attached to the APM, or can APM mode be set over Telemetry?  This is the last piece of information I am trying to locate to decide how I want to build my Rover.

I bought a decent entry level 5 channel transmitter (DX5e) which only has a 2 position switch an a momentary toggle.  In order to get a transmitter with a 3 position, I would have down grade the quality of the transmitter.

  • Hello old men...

just joined this group (i saw it on the main page...being a ham i had to join)

my callsign is ON4NDO and I have a hexacopter with an APM 2.5

I.m in the process of building an APM 2.5-based quad with 915MHz telemetry and 5.8GHz video. Right now I'm using a Hobby King KK 2.0 flight controller to learn proper control. I used to fly RC helicopters in the early to mid 90's using a Futaba 9ZHP on 6 meters; still have that bad boy but put a 2.4GHz spread spectrum transmitter in it; I like the smaller antennas and the true diversity receiver.

    That's all for now.

  • Bret, I've been considering doing something like that for Field Day, but haven't gotten as far as completing the drone yet.

  • Any hams put up a drone circling containing a cross-band repeater for field day?  Bret AC0AE

  • hi there

anyone using/having a APRS like that in perl (cpan::Ham::APRS::FAP) ?

Using a drone to help place an antenna at the 80' to 200' level of a sturdy Douglas Fir tree.

I invite and welcome your comments and suggestions regarding the application that is described in this discussion. I have been building and flying drones for about three years, and am early in the process  of adding collision-avoidance to my Phantom 2 Vision, and then to a 3D Robotics  X8+. Once I have collision-avoidance working on the Phantom, I would like to add a solenoid release mechanism behind the camera. The release mechanism would serve to securely carry fishing line to a suitable and…
