Problems with my new quad

Hi,

I've been assembling a quadcopter recently but having a few pre-flight problems. The frame is a previous version of a sexycopter frame from quadframe.com with the following link:

http://quadframe.com/collections/multicopter-frames/products/quad003

I'm using an X-config, a 3S 3000C LiPo, 1000KV motors,10x4.7 props, 18 A ESCs and the Diydrones APM 2.0 board.

Issues:

1) The 'motors' test in the APM Planner does not run the right motors, although the wiring is correct according to the X-configuration motor numbering. I had to swap outputs 1&4 and 2&3 to make the 'motors' test run as suggested in the following page:

http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/AC2_Props_2

Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

2) My quad doesn't respond to pitch commands sent from the transmitter in one direction when trying the 'hand test'.

3) I figure that because I'm using a different frame than the Arducpoter and greater thrust ESCs, I would need to tune the PID controller on the APM. This was also evident from my failed lift-off attempt. If anyone has a good set of gains for this frame, please let me know.

Thanks!

  • @Lloyd: Thanks for the pitch reversing advice. The motors test works well.

@Ken: All the best. I haven't been able to tune the PID yet. Will post something in case I manage to do it on my own. Do let me know if you find any valuable resource regarding the tuning of the quad.

  • I'll be following your thread; I have the same frame.  This will be my first copter and would be interested in your PID settings once it get it all worked out.  Have all the parts I need except the APM2.

  • You probably should connect the motors as per the instructions.

I had the same problem with my arducopter 3DR frame.

Then I reversed the pitch setting on the radio setup screen in MissionPlanner following forum advice.

The motors should do as the do on the wiki page, it is correct.

Didn't sound logical to me but it works of course.

When the pitch stick is pushed up the green bar is supposed to go down.

    Good luck
