Hi there.

I am fairly new to this and need to know a few things for a quadcopter. It's primary use will be just for learning purposes as this will be my first RC anything but I plan on having a 47gram wifi camera fixed to the bottom for a basic view.

I have chosen a few parts and I think they will work together well.

Motors: CF2822 1300KV 3mm 2-3s 39Grams

Controller: APM 2.6 + external UbloxNEO GPS compass board

ESCs: 2-4S 30AMP + 3A BEC

Props: CW+CCW 8x3.8 Rubber

Battery: 4S 30C 4200Mah

+ 915MHz telemetry + 2.4GHz 6CH hobbyking RX TX + Buzzer + RGB LEDs + connectors

The motors are rated 2-3S and the battery is 4S, will the motors be damaged if they are run at 30% most of the time?

The prop is rubber, is this good or bad? I know they will be harder to break but will they flex lots and become in-efficient?

If there anything else that I need to fix or if you need more information, ask me please.

Also, I have a $49 quad copter from Kmart and the motors stop turning exactly 1 second after turning the throttle up. 1 of the motors used to get a little hotter than the others but it still ran fine, could there be a current or other sensor that is stopping it?

Thanks

-Dan

  • Be careful using a "wifi camera" and a 2.4 GHz controller.   If your camera uses 2.4 also, It could cause interference with your controls.

Rubber is bad as it flexes then vibrates and APM's et al, are very sensitive to vibrations. APC Slow fly props are a good start, buy spares and don't fly near solid objects or people (not so solid).

Motors are damaged by high current/high load not by high voltage. so you can run a motor on 1S to 6S voltage (4.2V-25.2V) or even higher and it will be fine, but if you put a large prop on with 6S then you'll let the magic smoke out. The motor will without limit attempt to turn the prop increasing the current draw as much as it can until the motor coils or ESC or battery let go their magic smoke.

A typical 1kg - 1.5kg quad will draw 15-20A so 3.75A-5A per motor in the hover but can go to 60A with full power (15A per motor).

  • I might be wrong but if a engine is rated 3s max then it will be looking for 11.1v max and your 4s will be 14.4v so even at 30 percent it will still be putting the higher voltage in it .Carbon props would be better
