Adding extra functions to MinimOSD

I have started to add functions to MinimOsd code.

At first i did it for myself only. Added many functions i thought i need. Then opened this thread.

after a while, Pedro and later Miguel came, and things started to happen fast. :D

They have optimised the code and added even more things to it.

They have worked hard on CT, and it became a great tool!

Thank you Bough! :)

By now MinimOSD-Extra got a pretty advanced OSD.

Here it is in action:

Added:

- Changeable unit measurement (US, metric)

- Airspeed

- Home alt

- Battery Percent

- Battery used mah

- Current Draw

- Time From Startup (cleared at takeoff to show exact flight time)

- OSD Menu

- Variometer

- Wind horizontal speed and direction, and also the average wind speed of the last few minutes.

- OSD on/off

- Switchable secound screen

- WP distance

- WP heading

- Crosstrack error

- Warning messages for Lost GPS fix, Stall, Overspeed, battery volt, battery Percent, RSSI

- Efficiency, glide distance & thermic notifier. 3 in one panel

- OSD Brightness

- HAM Call Sign

- After flight summary

- Trip distance

- Temperature

- Smoothened horizon

- Real heading

- RSSI

- Vertical speed

This functions can be turned on and off, and placed on different screens now, by the Config. tool.

Also RSSI, switching mode and channel and unit measurement, Stall speed warning, Overspeed warning, Battery warning volt, Battery percent warning, RSSI warning,  can be set in new Config Tool.

We built in a new way of setting video standards. Now OSD does not guessing anymore :). You can set it fixed from CT. It is in "Video Mode" menu.

Here is how it looks: (This video is a bit outdated, sorry. I will make a new one soon.)

The MinimOSD-Extra project is here: Link

This project is the developing version of the official Arducam OSD located here: Link

The latest stable version is: 2.2

The latest version can be downloaded from here: MinimOSD-Extra R800

Username: MinimOSD_Extra

Password: Top_Secret

CT is included. (The FW for Plane, Copter, Character upload and the character file is in the "FW & Char" directory inside CT directory)

We are sharing it to see videos you make using it! :)

Enjoy

    • Hi Louis,

      I know that mod.

However the main goal here is to get all the data via mavlink.

IMHO that mod would be like in real aviation using a pitot just to show airspeed on a display and not using it to feed the autopilot (flight controller) system.

I guess that APM devs are willing to implement a second battery reading in their code.

Furthermore we already have the code in minimosd extra to get that reading from mavlink (commented for now).

  • What is the difference between MinimOSD_2.4.0.1.mcm and MinimOSD_2.4.0.0.mcm and which one is preferred for .785?

And is there a release notes page for the firmwares something like blow?

    https://github.com/diydrones/ardupilot/blob/master/ArduCopter/Relea...

    • Hi Peter,

The added "charset log" is here.

Both charsets will work fine with .785

If I recall well it was just a little fix in "line" like chars.

I'll upgrade CT Tool version in next release so it will match this 2.4.0.1 charset.

  • Thank you for your reply, Thomas. It makes more sense now. I really do appreciate the people who volunteer their time and this is and excellent project. Two minutes of time to document these things would, however, save many people hours of head scratching... But I guess I had an itch up there anyway. :o)  Thanks again.

    • Hi Terry,

You are right that documentation is a little old. Sorry about that.

We're trying to achieve a nice and stable release so then I can move on to a nice wiki with pictures and videos.

The latest fws and CT Tool aren't on the project site because code.google doesn't allow upload new "downloads" anymore.

I'll be talking with Gabor so we can keep the "latest" fws in the first post of this thread.

      • Hi Miguel, I wonder if you knew what you were getting into with this project? LOL

I hate to be a pest but I have gone to the first page of this very long thread and can't find the latest fws. Please let me know how to find it.

  • HI

What would be the latest stable to use for plane ? r719 ?

    Thanks

  • Hi David,

    1. That is a known issue. Please try the r785 with the CT Tool r787 that I've just posted.

    2. That's weird. I'm not sure what's causing that :(

    Miguel

  • Hi,

There is a new CT Tool for MinimOSD Extra 2.4.0.0 Pre Release r787

This version should fix the reported issue when uploading charset with the copter r785 fw installed on minimosd
