I have started to add functions to MinimOsd code.
At first i did it for myself only. Added many functions i thought i need. Then opened this thread.
after a while, Pedro and later Miguel came, and things started to happen fast. :D
They have optimised the code and added even more things to it.
They have worked hard on CT, and it became a great tool!
Thank you Bough! :)
By now MinimOSD-Extra got a pretty advanced OSD.
Here it is in action:
Added:
- Changeable unit measurement (US, metric)
- Airspeed
- Home alt
- Battery Percent
- Battery used mah
- Current Draw
- Time From Startup (cleared at takeoff to show exact flight time)
- OSD Menu
- Variometer
- Wind horizontal speed and direction, and also the average wind speed of the last few minutes.
- OSD on/off
- Switchable secound screen
- WP distance
- WP heading
- Crosstrack error
- Warning messages for Lost GPS fix, Stall, Overspeed, battery volt, battery Percent, RSSI
- Efficiency, glide distance & thermic notifier. 3 in one panel
- OSD Brightness

- After flight summary
- Trip distance

This functions can be turned on and off, and placed on different screens now, by the Config. tool.
Also RSSI, switching mode and channel and unit measurement, Stall speed warning, Overspeed warning, Battery warning volt, Battery percent warning, RSSI warning, can be set in new Config Tool.
We built in a new way of setting video standards. Now OSD does not guessing anymore :). You can set it fixed from CT. It is in "Video Mode" menu.
Here is how it looks: (This video is a bit outdated, sorry. I will make a new one soon.)
The MinimOSD-Extra project is here: Link
This project is the developing version of the official Arducam OSD located here: Link
The latest stable version is: 2.2
The latest version can be downloaded from here: MinimOSD-Extra R800
Username: MinimOSD_Extra
Password: Top_Secret
CT is included. (The FW for Plane, Copter, Character upload and the character file is in the "FW & Char" directory inside CT directory)
We are sharing it to see videos you make using it! :)
Enjoy

It is APM.
OSD reacts very fast.
On APM there is a priority method, that reduces low priority functions in favor of critical ones.
But it seams faster if you set highr rates on SR1_EXTRA1 and SR1_EXTRA2.
Gábor
Many thanks, I will try it!
It would be nice to have something like this for APM! :) This guy uses a solar panel to charge the plane's battery while on flight... 80 km and back flight! Simply amazing!
)
Hi Pavel,
One "neighbor" of mine (Spain) with solar panels :)
100km and back

I think it's not APM related is power setup related :)

Hi Miguel,
Yes, but I like that OSD, it is very intuitive and has some interesting indicators, which would be nice to have. I posted it here mainly for inspiration because some time ago some discussion about more graphical chip unit was here. I think with APM that would be ideal combination.
PS: That is really crazy flight! :)
Regards,
Pavel
Hi Pavel,
It's sure a great inspiration :) thanks!
It was 5 hours flight!!! Yes it's crazy flight! :)
There are a bunch of panels that I would also like to put in minimOSD (like ladders) but the board capabilities are just too little :(
Miguel
Miguel,
Only asking because I truly don't know, and I can't remember if it has been asked before: With the introduction of the PX4 and now Pixhawk, I assume there will be more and more APM 2.5 and 2.6 boards on benches. While this is an expensive investment for an OSD, if someone had a spare, would it be something to grow the minimOSD code to, or are there core components missing that make it not possible?
Hi Miguel,
I know. But thomas Butler on Saturday mentioned:
"FYI: maxim has no replacement for the graphical OSD chip they discontinued, but there are others. Xilinx makes one." I do not know about HW much, but I can only try to help with software part! :) But maybe he knows hardware? :)
Regards,
Pavel
Yup, like HOME direction and the next CHECKPOINT direction in the center of the screen in the same time but not confusing at all!
That would be an awesome feature!
Can I ask a huge favor. I have some important missions coming up in very mountainous terrain and I need to keep my head in the cockpit. Could you write me a hex with that shows the target altitude at the next waypoint?
I don't know how much space you need for this but I'm not using any of the following:
Call sign
Efficiency
Real Heading
Heading
Temperature
And if you really need space, you can remove the Horizon.
Thank you Gabor, for everything you have given to this community.
