    Hi Joe ,
Welcome , you are in right spot and right time too. Hang on , some one will be able to help you around London, meanwhile you need to do some home work, start here in the first page. Like the saying goes , you can take the horse to water ... , so read a lot and ask lots of questions. Cheers :-)
  • First off, you'll need to read through this stuff on UK UAV regulations and make sure you design your system to comply. There were a few changes made on Jan 1st 2010 that you'll need to check up on as well. Take note of the restrictions on where you can fly; if you live in London then it's pretty much a given that you won't be able to fly it anywhere nearby; you'll have to travel a little. Work out where the nearest suitable flying spot is; look for an RC model club's flying ground and ask if they'll allow UAVs, or find some open fields or similar where you can fly without infringing on any controlled airspace (or trespassing on the ground, obviously).
  • hey gary thanks for the advise, say you dont know anyone in england thats good with uav's no one has responded yet and id like to get started maybe ill have to travel to the states it seems like there are alot more people in this field there then in the uk.

Joe, you live near Heathrow so straight off the bat you will have to go fly in the countryside. Either straight West of you or North would be the closest. You cannot fly your UAS without Heathrows permission until you are basically Watford to the North or Reading to the West. Be aware that as you are funding the project it might be viewed as valuable consideration for the builder by the CAA so they would need to be licenced. Have a look at CAP722 its a good start. Read this site hard, all the information you need is here. Its not hard!
