APM1.0 octoctoper with 2 separate batteries

Hello

I am building an octocopter with 8x tiger mt2814 motors and 8x 30A rctimer ESC's with SimonK firmare, 2x 5000mAh 4S batteries.

I want to use one battery for 4 motors and other battery for 4 motors + apm.

I have attached wiring diagram also. So the problem is that when i do that only motors that are behind ESC 1/3/7/10 starts to spin, because they are powered by battery nr2. APM is powered via ESC 3.

But when i tried powering APM from the other battery and ESC 4 etc. then motors behind battery nr. 1 start and not the ones behind battery nr. 2.

ESC's behind "not working" battery won't make the fourth beep when powering them on or connecting signal wire from APM to ESC.

Also noticed that sometimes the "not working" side acts all crazy, by just randomly starting motor up and throttling up and down.

  • You need to connect the negative (earth) sides of the batteries together.  You can't have them completely isolated because the ESC control signals need a common earth.

Not sure why you don't just parallel the two batteries.  Otherwise you'll need two battery voltage monitors, and one side might go flat before the other, shortening the flight time.
