Best radio for arducopter- Spektrum dx6i or Futuba 6J

Hello,

I'm sure many of you have used  these radios, so which one do you think is better? I'm leaning towards the Futuba because I have always used them. I took a look in my local  hobby store at the Spektrum and it was nice (a little plasticy though). They didn't have the Futuba in stock. Which one do you recommend? I'm still fairly new to the Arducopter platform.

I thank you in advance for your reply

Bob

    I've owned a couple of Spektrum. DX8 and DX5e
The support from Skektrum has been outstanding. I've had to contact them 4 or 5 times and they fixed my issues everything.
  • Hi Bob,

I've used a DX6i with Arducopter, can't comment on the Futaba. I like the Spektrum kit and haven't had any quality issues (although I agree looks a bit plasticy), choice of receivers is excellent (certainly in the UK) and I've found it to be straight forward to set up and use and most importantly reliable.

The DX6i has 2 position switches on channels 5 and 6 meaning that you have to mix switches to get a useful number of different modes - a 3 position switch would be better of you plan to use lots of different modes. I don't know if the Futaba has 2 position or 3 position switches?

On the number of channels, if all you are aiming to do is fly about in stabilise or a couple of different modes then the DX6i is fine. If you are thinking about adding a camera or other stuff then go for more than 6 channels (I've ended up getting a DX8).

Like I said i don't have any experience of the Futaba, the Spektrum is a nice transmitter but if you have a lot invested in Futaba (receivers and experience) then go for that. If you can get more than 6 channels and it will last you longer, if you stick with the hobby I'm sure you'll end up wanting more than 6 channels.

    Paul
