Current hardware, how much can I reuse?

So... I've got one of the original APM2 board, decent ESCs, motors, props, etc... I basically have a totally working ArduCopter from years ago, but never flew it much because of how difficult it was to keep in the air and how much trouble I had filming with it.

Since then, I've experimented with a bunch of different drones and have finally committed to some DJI gear. I've got both a Phantom 3 and Inspire 1 and with the app, gimbal, etc they're pretty incredible!

HOWEVER... I flew a friends 3DR Solo this past week and absolutely loved it... it's rock solid, way more stable than I thought it would be and the flight experiance was so much better than I had imagined it would be as well.

So the question I have no is... is there any way I can reuse my APM 2 airframe, motors, ESCs, radio and batteries and basically retrofit the newest electronics onto it and have an experiance about the same as the Solo?? I've been trying to read as much as possible about the PX4 and such, but I don't see a clear path to get from one place to the other.

What do you guys think? Can I leverage a bunch of the hardware I have sitting here to build a much better drone and have something close to the 3DR Solo? Maybe something that can even use the smartphone apps to take advantage of the intelligent flight modes and mapping abilities??

  • Does this mean it will be able to fly with the smartphone apps as well for the intelligent flights modes and mapping capability?

Will it also be capable of streaming video from a GoPro?

  • Install pixhawk , you will have the benefit of autotune , the flight code is the same that solo uses
