I'm just getting into the UAV and Multicopter platforms for a change from other platforms and I've picked a fairly straight forward Quadcopter frame. Then in a photo link to a news story I saw the link below and clicked on it and thought the design looked quite odd. It appears they've gone for a Tricopter design but either double ended motors or 6 motors as they've doubled up the blades on each side. Wouldn't this lead to more instability due to the turbulence created between the 2 blades being so close? What sort of benefit would you hope to achieve by having the blades mounted like that rather than in a Hexcopter formation (Aside from saving a little weight by lacking 3 arms)?

Also better for filming as there's a wider gap between the arms - wider field of view possible before the props start appearing in frame.
