I'm on AC2 with APM, IMU, GPS, no magnetometer, and using Turnigy 9x tx and rx. I verified all motors are spinning in correct direction and followed the set up to a T. I'm using the x orientation and flying in stabilize mode. Anyways, so when I increase the throttle the quad starts moving in the forward direction in a pretty fast manner. What could be the problem? Where do I start with the troubleshooting?

    You are seeing ground effects - the turbulence of the air bouncing back and hitting the copter.

    The Yaw issue was caused by a bug in a few versions back. Please try the SVN and grab the latest.

     

    John C. Do you have telemetry? I'd be curious to see what angle the copter actually thinks it's flying. You may want to redo your radio config as well. The center trims are saved at this step.

  • I re-calibrated everything and made sure the APM was level ( I think this was the problem).  However, the quad seems to randomly yaw quite a bit in the counter clock wise direction when I take off, but then it stops once I clear the ground.  Also, it does seem to move on it's own in certain directions without any input on the sticks.  How much input should I be giving in stabilize mode? It seems I have to keep correcting it to keep it in one spot.  Here is my video (3 minutes long) with a hard landing at the end and I decided to stop for the night.  (Sorry for the crappy quality)

  • Had a similar problem with my setup, however it was back and to the right. I ran level several times, watched for drift with sensors, couldn't figure it out. I brushed the ESC on the back right side and it was quite warm where all the rest were cool to the touch. I replaced it thinking I had a bad ESC but the new one just heated up. I unplugged that ESC and another one heated up. Eventually I isolated it to the BEC, one ESC (whatever is the last CH) was doing all the work and heating up causing a lower power out to the motor. I added a BEC (and bumped it to 6v from the ESC BEC at 5v) and the heating problem and tilt went away.

    Sounds like your Radio isn;t setup properly. Please try and reset that. And redo the level command for good measure.

    Also, leave your radio trims in their neutral position at all times. Chris is thinking of APM which is for planes.

  • When you went through setup, and it asked if it was level, was it really lebel? Not coffee table level, but spirit level level? May be well worth recalibratong gyros again.
