Just trying to get my first Quad running and my transmitter is not seen by the APM 1.4 .  I am here:

http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/AC2_First  - at the setup steps.

Here is what I have done so far:

1. I have the APM connected via USB to my windows 7 laptop, the Mission planner is connected

2. Turnigy 9X receiver is connected and powered by a 6 volt pack. I 'think' I have the APM connected to the Receiver with the right connections/order.

3. I do not have a LIPO plugged in. I am assuming that if I have the Rcvr powered by the 6 volt pack, and the APM powered by the USB cable, it is enough power to do the calibration. Is this a bad assumption?

Honestly I'm a little freaked out by all the warnings of "Unplug the 4 wire cable...."

4. When I go to the Terminal in MP it says Arducopter 2.3 - this was loaded by udrones.

5. Txmitter/Rcvr is a Turnigy 9x V2. I installed the smartieparts and reflashed it with the er9x-ARDU firmware.

I have attached photos of the Turnigy start screen, and the Mixer page.

Wondering if I do have the right channels configured (1 AIL, 2 ELE, 3 THR, 4 RUD).

6. I have successfully bind-ed the tx/rx. And I used a camera mount servo to test each channel. I can't say I really know what I am doing here but Transmitter stick movements directly moved the servo during this test.

When I go to the MP Configuration/Setup and try to calibrate the radio, there is no movement of the on screen display. And the settings are left around 1499 1500.  Stuck in the mud here.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mike

  • If your receiver is powered by the battery, is the ground (black wire / negative) of the battery connected to the APM? You would require a common ground between the two for the whole lot to work. Without it, there is no return path.

Try powering it the "normal" way (i.e. no battery for the rx but rather off the APM)

  • Isn't it great answering your own questions..... I'm an Ardu-idiot.   Lo and behold when I connected a REAL BATTERY, and not just the USB+Rcvr Bat pack I was able to configure. Now I've calibrated the ESC, moving forward. Sorry for the wasted electrons.
