hot motor

Hello Multicopter Fans,

I have a quad that I have gotten to start flying fairly stable but now if the quad flies for more than 2 minutes or so one of my motors begins to get VERY hot and the trim changes dramatically, away from the hot motor (no surprise) Why might the motor suddely start getting hot? The other three are only warm, the quad is well balanced. Is the motor going bad?

Thanks guys, I unfortunately think you are right. I ordered some new motors (from Hyperion) whats a guy to do when the DIY Drones store has shown out of stock of 2836's for a long time? Balanced prop and tried new speed controller to no avail. No bad vibrations in Quad. Gotta just be a bad motor.

  • It could possibly be the motor, the ESC, or an unbalanced propeller or bell housing.

  • That is a good assumption.  A motor with bad bearings or a winding gone bad would cause heating.  In this hobby there are no absolutes.  It is best to have a spare motor/ESC to confirm.

Of course a bad motor would make it harder for the APM to Stabilize the quad.
