jDrones motor and ESC with a computer PSU for battery

Hello,

I recently got the jDrones motor(850kv version) and ESC(20A) however I don't have a battery right now.

I want to test it out and see that I can control the ESC with an Arduino so I thought I'd connect the ESC to an old computer 300W+ PSU. It delivers 12v and it should be able to reach 25A+.

Would that be ok? I don't want to fry anything in the process.

    Bim, you might want to take a look jDrones jDoc site for code examples. There are few examples on how to run and calibrate your ESCs from Arduino it self. 

    But yes sure you can connect them to what ever powersupply as long as you are not put over voltage on those.

    Hello Bim,

     

    That should work fine, however you might need to program the ESC cut off voltage to low and I would not run the motor up with a big prop on it as it will pull more AMP's than the power supply will be able to give.

    This is how I power 4 20a escs.. I just cut one of the spare plugs off connect the yellow 12v and black ground, computer PSUs are designed to power very sesitive equipment they will shutdown if you draw to much power, short wieres etc so you should be safe.

    You will never draw more then a few amps under normal operation, the maximum amp draw will only happen if you stall the moter or something like that.
