MISSION PLANNER AND UBUNTU 13.10

i am attempting to install mission planner with my ubuntu operating system.  The problem I am having is Mission Planner is written for Windows and MAC.  I understand it needs Net Framework to operate, BUT it is written in Linux, shouldn't it be able to run in Linux????   I am building a Quadcopter and so far everything is open-sourced and I want it to stay that way.  I have the new Pixhawk, and the Fr-Sky radio and I want to control everything from Ubuntu.  I welcome any instructions or suggestions.
