Mtek GPS firmware version advantage

Anybody knows the advantage/disadvantage of using the mtek 1.4 (AXN_1.30,2278 [I aasume to be 1.4 issued in September]) version of the firmware compared to the 1.6 (AXN_1.30,2389 [January (1.6)])?

I have a version 1.4 GPS but looks like software development is moving forward with 1.6 as target. I don't have an FTDI cable so its kind of a hassle!!! Add to that I'm in the part of the world where its easy to order but takes tooo loooonnng to get stuffs.

    If i bought the latest GPS version 1.6 from DIYDrones, do i still need to configure anything? Or i can just plug in APM assuming the GPS is giving Binary output to APM

    1.6 has a few more data fields, so the GCS will report things like time and sats better. But for autopilot use, they're identical. No need to upgrade.
