Hello all,
I have the latest revision of the APM code installed, and use a Futaba radio set.
I got the Throttle Failsafe value set up propelry so the APM goes into Failsafe when i switch off the Tx.
However the modes do not change as I want them to.
What seems to happen is that when I switch off the Tx, the mode remains to what it was earlier for about 20 seconds. After that it goes to RTL.
I want the mode to instantly go into RTL, as if i enter failsafe form Manual Mode, 20 seconds in Manual may lead to a crash.
I tried to enable the SHort and Long failsafe values, but that did not help.
Please help !
Thanks
Gaurav

What is the final conclusion on this? I was flying today for the first time in months. I installed the latest software on my skywalker with params from the download section. I guess the 6ch spektrum receiver wasn't happy inside and was losing connection. I wasn't far away at all but I could see when it would lose connection it would jitter and go into circle mode and then sometime after I would regain control. It was difficult to land. I've moved the Rx outside the plane but I'm doubtful if I have things set right. I don't believe I can't set the fail safe on my AR6110e Rx so that it outputs the right value to trigger RTL so I will have to rely on throttle failsafe?
I noticed in my settings that the FS_GCS_ENABL = 0
FS_LONG_ACTN = 0
fS_SHORT_ACTN = 0
THR_FAILSAFE = 1
THR_FS_VALUE = 950
Is this correct?
When I watch the Modes screen in APMSetup it says Current PWMP 8: 901 when I turn off the Tx. For me that is Flight Mode 1 CIRCLE
My other flight modes are:
Mode 2 STABILIZE
Mode 3 AUTO
Mode 4 RTL
Mode 5 FLY BY WIRE Q
Mode 6 manual
On the failsafe document page it has the value 1 for both RTL or if you want to return to your original flight plan. I think this is an error. Can someone please update this as well as include what the other values do?
I need to confirm fail safe values to have it activated . THR_FAILSAFE = 0, THR_FS_ACTION = 1 Is this correct?
Doug,
Ok Yes i know both things
a. Control surface are mixed on to all modes
b. I know about the hardware mux. My Manual is mode is not set to the hardware Manual. Plus the same issue happens when i enter failsafe via Stabilize or FBW.
Currently I am checking the mode status only by looking at the APM Planner . Well how else can I know that the code is actually into Circle ( at short failsafe ) ?
Thanks for looking into it. I will feel much more confident, if we can have this report back correctly.
Thanks Doug for your help ( i need it ! ).
I am using APM V2.26 My board is the new 2560 one. IMU shield is Rev H
I do not have telemetry installed on my setup.I am checking the fail safe procedure on ground, via my USB cable connection.
I am checking the Flight mode on APM Planner, on the Flight planner tab.
I have no problems in having the plane go to Circle mode first for 20 seconds, and then go into RTL. What i do NOT want is the current setup, where the plane remains in manual mode for 20 seconds. That will for sure lead to dangerous orientations !
Do let me know if you need any other info from me. and Thanks again for your help !
Thanks Doug,
Yes. am sure its not switching to Circle.
Suppose I am in FBW-A mode. and switch off my Tx. The APM detects this ( as I can see it under Tests>Radio ).
But the mode remains unchanged. After 20 seconds the mode goes to RTL.
If I enter Failsafe via Stabilize mode,then also the mode remains stabilize, and after 20 seconds gets into RTL.
Please help me on this as I need to get the mode switched to RTL reliably.
Thanks !
Here are some of my settings :
THR_FAILSAFE = 1
THR_FS_VALUE=975 ( My Failsafe throttle value goes to 969 )
FS_GCS_ENABLE=0
FS_LONG_ACTN = 1
FS_SHORT_ACTN=1
Long and short failsafe action values only affect higher (auto, guided, etc.) modes.
When a short failsafe occurs in lower modes the mode will switch to Circle (which keeps the plane in a gentle bank) mode, and then after 20 seconds will switch to RTL. Are you sure it is not switching to Circle? Do you have the throttle failsafe enabled?
