Question about LAND function

Is there an altitude threshold where the LAND function shouldn't be used?   For instance, if I send the LAND command while I'm 50 meters up, will my 3DR Hex drop like a rock, or will it settle down from there to a gentle landing?   Will the wind push it or will it hold its position on the way down?

There doesn't seem to be anything in the docs on the LAND function...  http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/AC2_ModeSwitch

I've have used LAND a few times, but only when the Hex was loitering at 2 meters or less.  (Usually following an RTL).

But what about higher altitudes?  I know I could just try it... But I'm not sure how the Hex will respond and my supply of spare props is starting to dwindle. :-)

Also...  When I do use LAND, the throttle doesn't completely shut off..  The hex will bump up and down on the ground, rising and falling a few inches each time.  I have to switch to STABILIZE to fully shut the throttle off.  Is this normal?

You can execute land at any altitude. Motors don't auto cut off, you have to do that manually.
