Thanks for the new 2.9.1 firmware!
Flying stability is much better than before...
(STABILIZE, LOITER; ALT_HOLD) tested successfully with DEACTIVATED sonar.
Using the 2.9.1 firmware, the copter is very stable without sonar!
As soon as the sonar is activated, ALT_HOLD is not working anymore.
The copter starts to climb automatically.
I tried everything to eliminate the problem, without success.
(Power filter, shielded cable, changed mounting, ...)
1) Is it possible to fly AUTO missions (Takeoff/Land) autonomously without sonar??
2) Is the sonar altitude logged correctly when the sonar is deactivated in the settings?
Thanks for some hints and best regards

Maxbotix just sent me a free I2C sonar MB1242 as replacement for the MB1200.
Anyone has experiences to make it work?

Reality is that anything other than the Max 1240 or 1340 is almost impossible to get to work right.
I have a 1200 that works pretty well, but it is still noisy and problematic.
The 1240 or 1340 are the ones recommended by Maxbotics and they are much less noise sensitive than the others.
Even then you really need to add the recommended resistor / capacitor filter and it would help to use shielded (grounded) cable to connect the signal and power wires. and if possible it should be mounted dead center under the copter to reduce prop wash noise.
As to what kinds of "noise" are the problem - - - Everything!
Electrical and magnetic from your motors and ESCs, acoustic from your props and motors and vibration through the airframe.
You can check your logs with SONAR enabled and if you've got spikes, you've got a potential problem.
Increase your throttle mid point in the Mission Planner.
hi
I also noticed that I sometimes do this defect,
if the active sonar from CH7, first active sonar and after ALT-OLD,
if active sonar before, and after ALT-OLD sometimes does that defect.

Hope this helps.
